Life is good
Coronavirus and economic collapse got you down? If it seems like the end times are upon us, don’t worry – life really is getting better. Or at least it is for members of the OECD, which The Economist regularly refers to as “a club of rich nations”.
It’s just released its How’s Life 2020 report, which measures well-being across member countries, and the news is good. Income is up since 2018, as is employment, life expectancy and satisfaction. Even the gender pay gap has narrowed for most countries in the survey. Things not so good – people are working slightly longer hours and there are more murders (although still very low by SA standards).
The least surprising result – there is much correlation between societies with high well-being scores and those with low inequality scores. Who’dathunkit?
