Civic Tech Forum: The show must go on

Kudos to the folks at the Civic Tech Innovation Forum in Johannesburg. The three day event (including the journalism focussed Jamfest) was scheduled for this week (and yours truly was to have been a speaker), but has obviously been cancelled thanks to the corona-clampdown. All is not lost, however: the organisers are using Zoom to host webinars with some of the key speakers, and it’s great. Today’s show is over, but there’s still time to sign up for tomorrow.

It’s definitely worth it – observations this morning from the likes of Al Kags, Richard Gevers and Nathalie Dijkman (dialling in from Kenya, South Africa and Uganda, respectively) on why now, more than ever, civic tech in Africa is essential were highly pertinent. My favourite part: Kags’ challenge not to give up on open data but to do “civic tech for civic tech’s sake” to increase its adoption still.
