Scrollytelling disaster (in a good way)
Starting with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79 which put paid to the town of Pompeii and fastforwarding to the 20th Century, Mohamed A Waked has created a short history of natural disasters in scrollytelling form. It’s comprehensive – there are over 15,000 events mentioned and the 1,440 which caused over 90% of the deaths are charted – and quite beautiful. One particular standout is the way climate-related disasters are relatively few in number, but disproportionately responsible for tragedy. The full thing is here.
