Space Jam 2021 – just as slow as the original

The 1996 basketball movie Space Jam came with a very 1996 website, famous at the time for its rather ambitious graphics, and famous today for having survived unchanged for most of its 25-year life. However, there’s a new Space Jam movie, which means a new Space Jam website. While it’s not nearly as classic as the original (still visible here), the new one is as slow to load as the original would have been in its time, according to an investigation by Max Böck. “So after 25 years of technological progress, after bringing 4.7 billion people in the world online, after we just landed a fifth robot on Mars, visiting the Space Jam website is now 1.3 seconds faster. That seems… underwhelming,” he writes. Which just goes to prove that systems will always grow to use the available resources, and Hollywood can always be counted on to destroy all our dearest cine-memories with shittier remakes.
